Abstract (EN)

The symptoms of anxiety, depression, selfperception which could be generalized as psychological symptoms could be shaped by many notions. The present study explains the effects of uncertainty on psychological symptoms with various variables. It is known that, situations of uncertainty are considered dangerous, stressful and avoidable by people. Therefore, the level of intolerance has an impact on the psychological symptom level. In the present study, effects of intolerance of uncertainty on psychological symptoms that is mediated by the types of rumination (brooding and reflection) and general procrastionation tendency and modareted by the urgency factor of impulsivity is exaimened on the basis of information obtained from the literature. The study differs from the previous studies in terms of examining all these variables by constructing a model. In this context, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Ruminative Responses Scale, UPPS Impulsive Behaviours Scale, General Procrastination Scale and Brief Symptom Inventory were carried out for undergraduate and graduate students who continue their education in Ankara, a total of 225 women and 74 men, aged between 18-30. According to the findings of the model test; for both moderate and high levels of urgency; increase of the intolerance of uncertainity level predicts the increase of psychological sypmtoms through the mediation of brooding and general procrastination tendency. Similarly, for both moderate and high levels of urgency; increase in the level of uncertainty intolerance predicts the increase of psychological sypmtom level only through the mediation of brooding. The increase of the intolerance of uncertainty level also predicts the increase of psychological symptom level through the mediation of reflection factor, but the urgency level does not make a difference in this relationship. The results are discussed in the light of the literature.
