Özet (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the benefit after maneuver and the frequency of physical activity in individuals diagnosed with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Material and Methods: A total of 66 patients who were diagnosed with BPPV in 2021 at Başkent University Ankara Hospital, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Audiology Clinic were included in the study. All patients were administered the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to assess one-week physical activity and the Physical Activity Assessment Questionnaire (PAAQ) to evaluate one-year physical activity. For 66 patients included in the study; Each maneuver performed until complete recovery in BPPV was divided into three groups as those who recovered in the first maneuver after diagnosis of BPPV, recovered in two maneuvers, and recovered in three maneuvers to determine the benefit after the maneuver. Statistical analyzes of the obtained results were evaluated with IBM SPSS Statistics Base 25.0 (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp. Released 25.0.0, Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.). For statistical significance, a p value below 0.05 was considered significant. Results: A total of 66 patients, 47 women and 19 men, diagnosed with BPPV, with a mean age of 56.26 ± 15.003, were included in the study. No significant difference was found between the three independent groups and the one-week questionnaire scores for each maneuver performed until a complete recovery in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (p>0.05). A significant difference was found between the three independent groups and the one-year questionnaire scores for each maneuver performed until complete recovery in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (p<0.05). In the comparison between the groups, a significant difference was found between the one-year survey scores of one maneuver and two maneuvers (p<0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, our study provided supportive information in determining the relationship between the benefit of maneuver and physical activity in patients diagnosed with BPPV. According to the results of our study, it was determined that more maneuvers were required for BPPV treatment in people with low daily physical activity scores in the last year. It was determined that the daily physical activity score in the last week did not affect the number of maneuvers for BPPV treatment. For further studies, we believe that it may be useful to evaluate age groups and duct involvement in a larger number of populations in patients diagnosed with BPPV.
