Abstract (EN)

The use of concrete as a building material in civil engineering applications is quite common and concretes produced by replacing some of the cement with natural or industrial mineral additives are becoming increasingly common. In order to obtain new types of concrete with relatively high strength, low density and better thermal conductivity, a number of experimental studies were carried out. This thesis examines the effects of bentonite clay on the thermal and mechanical characteristics of concrete. %0, %5, %15, %30 bentonite clay was replaced by Portland cement CEM II 42.5 R by volume in proportions and standard mortar samples were prepared in 5 different series, including control samples. In addition, artificial aggregates, which the powder mixture of 90% ground granulated blast furnace slag and 10% Portland cement by weight were pelletized through cold-bonded agglomeration process, were partially used instead of natural coarse aggregates in samples containing bentonite in different proportions. As a result of 28-days experimental and theoretical tests, compared to the control sample, the B5 sample had a 94.73% increase in mechanical strength with a reduction of 31.22% in thermal conductivity rate. It was revealed that the most suitable bentonite ratio that can be used in concrete mix is 5%. According to the thermal conductivity test results, it was observed that samples with bentonite content decelerated the thermal conductivity between 30.2% and 39.81% compared to the control sample and bentonite content provided positive effects on the thermal properties of concrete samples.
