Linguistic feature of the descriptive text and teaching vocabulary by this type of text

The purpose of this study is to analyse the descriptive texts in a detailed way and to provide some materials in teaching words to foreigners who learn Turkish by identifying the linguistic characteristics of the descriptive texts. For this purpose, the linguistic structures have been scrutinised, and the function of description its method and other characteristics have been comprehensively tried to analyse.In order to provide materials by using descriptive texts in teaching Turkish as a foreign language, the selection of a text and the usage of a text in teaching a foreign language have been gauged. After proposing communicative approach in a general sense to proceed the approaches in a methodical way, how to use a text and how to teach words in this approach have been explained.As a result of the analysis of the linguistic structures in descriptive texts, the following structures have been identified to exist mostly: qualifying adjectives, place words, noun clauses, reduced clauses and reduplications. Some materials from these structures which are directed to the qualifying adjectives, place words and the word sphere of the descriptive object itself which are appropriate in teaching words have been tried to develop by employing the techniques which are used by communicative technique taking the assessments of the texts in foreign language teaching into consideration.
