Relationship between emotion, depression and socialmedia dependence levels in white collars

"Social media addiction" and "depression" have become one of the major social issues of developed and developing societies. The relationship between social media addiction and depression, which is an area of interest for many segments from academic studies to the business world, still includes many issues that need to be discussed. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between mood state depression and social media addiction levels in white-collar employees. The study has been conducted with the participation of 210 volunteers from 24 to 42 years of age. Social Media Addiction Scale, Beck Depression Inventory and Mood-State Scale have been used in the study. It has been observed that female participants have a more virtual tolerance level, virtual communication level, social media addiction score and Beck depression score when compared to those of males. It has been determined that there is a negative correlation between age - income level and scale scores except for negative mood state. When the relationship of the scales with each other is examined, it has been determined that the Virtual Tolerance Rating score is positively correlated with virtual communication score, social media addiction score, Beck depression score and negative emotion score respectively but is negatively correlated with positive mood state score. As a result, the use of social media increases as depression increases. We think that large cohort studies should be carried out and national measures should be taken in this regard.
