DİLMEN A. (2018). Pre-operative and Post-operative Body Image and Self Esteem of Patients with Hair Cuts in Brain Surgery. Hasan Kalyoncu University, Health Science Enstitutes, Department of Nursing, Master Thesis, Gaziantep This research was planned as a descriptive study to determine the body image and self-esteem of pre- and post-operative of patients who had haircuts in brain surgery. The study was carried out at the Neurosurgery Clinic of Health Practices and Research Hospital in Gaziantep. The sample of the study consisted of 65 patients who underwent neurosurgical clinic surgery due to brain surgery, agreed to participate in the study, had no communication problems, and had planned hair cuts before surgery in 01 December 2015-31 March 2016. As a data collection tool, Coopersmith Self - Esteem Scale, Social Appearance Anxiety Scale, and a survey form developed by the researcher in the light of literature were used. The first part of the questionnaire, up to the 9th question was applied before surgery while the second part was applied one week after the surgery by interview face to face with the patient. It was determined that 56,9% of the participants were men, 73,8% of them were over 35 years old, 86,2% of them have children, 67,7% of them were married, 53,8% of them were primary school graduates, 64,2% of them works and 95,6% of them have social insurance. 97% of the patients have a malignant tumor. It has been observed the increases of self-esteem of patients whose hair was partially cut off after surgery with the increased educational status (p<0.05).
