Knowledge economy and using big data: The case of Turkish banking sector

Abstract (EN)

The use of large data in the banking sector provides both the growth of the sector and the opportunity for firms in this sector to gain competitive advantage. Turkey of the companies in the banking sector, how they accept and take advantage of the big data effect was adopted at the global level, is to create an important research topic. This study is gaining importance in terms of revealing the effects of large data usage, which is a very important resource for firms, and drawing attention to the benefits of large data usage in banking. In this study, in which a qualitative research was designed, the situation of big data usage in the Turkish banking sector and the opportunities that the sector offers in the future were determined. 11 expert opinions were obtained and these opinions were evaluated by content analysis. According to content analysis, it was found that large data in the banking sector was used in various fields of activity; Themes related to big data advantages such as forecasting, customer orientation, cost reduction, holistic perspective and high performance are determined. Security, personal data protection, advanced technology requirements, high competence, such as issues, large data, disadvantages, indicating that the experts; stated that they should invest in this field and the investment in this area will be positive.
