Information systems based project management system and application

The role played by the project management in the success of projects and the added value supplied by the information systems is covered in this study. The coverage of current project management applications on project management and neccessary improvement points are taken into consideration. It is determined that the evaluation of project proposals and project selection activities are not in the scope of the current project management tools.A literature study regarding the subject is carried out and the coverage is planned accordingly. Then, the support of the information systems on project management is evaluated and the project portfolio management and project selection phases of project management are pointed out with a practical software application. With the practical application, the constitution of project proposal in the direction of organization? s strategic targets, evaluation of proposal first in the functional department level and afterwards in enterprise level are supported and the selected proposals are converted to projects. The planning, monitoring and progress evaluation activities applied after project selection are not covered in the subjected application. However neccessary infrastructure is planned for further improvements. Creation of project proposals, formation of proposal pools on functional department and enterprise level and project selection stages are all taken into consideration as a business process and they are followed up with a workflow approach.
