Evaluation of information technology classrooms usability

Abstract (EN)

We live in age in which technology is developing very fast. As a result, the needs and requirements of the communities change as well. As society is going through the information age, developing technology is integrated according to the changing requirements of communities and lessons are aimed to be more effective with visual, aural and multimedia materials. By this means, Information Technology Classrooms (ITC) are gradually being formed.Utilization of Information Technology and Information Technology Classrooms in schools became more prevalent. In this survey, usability level of Information Technology Classrooms is analyzed. The goals of this survey are: to determine the realization levels of the aims that are materialized with the usage of Information Technology devices, to determine whether Information Technology Classrooms are used according to the aims of the usage, to determine whether Information Technology Classrooms are used effectively, to determine the level of satisfaction toward Information Technology Classrooms.This survey was done in the form of a questionnaire in the framework of a comparative relational model. This survey was given to 30 primary schools with ITC that were established by European Investment Bank (1400), World Bank (3000), Ministry and Koç Company in the centre district of Adapazarı in Sakarya in 2006. These schools were randomly selected and the questionnaire was applied to 347 teachers, 59 administrators and 841 students in the schools. Administrators, teachers and students who took part in this survey evaluated ITC in terms of the usability. Data that were used in the survey were attained with ?The Scale of Information Technology Usability? and data were analyzed in SPSS 15 package program.In conclusion; the research results revealed that the teachers who have access to a computer, the teachers who work in the schools that have a teacher-authorized of ITC, male students, the students who have access to a computer and the students in the school that have a teacher-authorized of ITC have more positive views about the usability of ITC. Generally, it has been found that teachers have more negative views about the usability of ITC.
