The effect of computer networks lectures in online environment on students? academic achievement and satisfaction

In this study, the effect of giving the Computer Networks lecture to senior students of Mosul University, Faculty of Education, and Department of Computers in an online environment, on the students? success and satisfaction is examined. The model adopted in the study is ?fully experimental? model. The study was conducted on 36 volunteer students. Interviews with the students, observations and examinations were applied in the study. During the interviews, students who took lectures in an online environment were asked to answer a form containing 10 questions. Natural observation method was applied in the observations. Lastly, a multiple choice examination was implemented on the students. Throughout the study period of three weeks, each student worked for two hours per week, at least six hours in total. The desired information was obtained from the data gathered by interviewing and observation methods.According to the results of the research, it was found that most of the students do not have internet connection. The reason for this is; internet is not widely used in the country and internet access is restricted. On the other hand, most of the students who were observed do not have computers.It was determined that there is a difference between the course grades of students who take computer networks subject in an online environment and course grades of students who take the subject face to face. According to the results of the examination, students who take the subject face to face are more successful.Lastly, satisfaction of students who take computer networks subject online and personal views of distant training students were taken. These views expressed that distant training is a new method and that the internet contributes significantly to education as well as the wish to have this method applied in Iraq.Key Words: Distant Training, web-based training, success, satisfaction
