Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to develop animation and educational computer games supported teaching material based on the 5E learning model for "Velocity and Balance in Reactions" which is included in eleventh-grade Chemistry courses in secondary schools. Furthermore, the aim is to determine the extent this material contributes to the academic success of students. A mixed method of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods was used. Static group pre- and post-test experimental methods and pre- and post-test control group random methods were used for the quantitative part. Semi-structured interview techniques were used for the qualitative part. Ninety-nine 11th grade students from Eskişehir Anatolian High School, Sivrihisar Fahri Keskin Science High School, and SEV Muzaffer Demir Anatolian High School participated in the study. The concept "Velocity and Balance in Reactions" was presented through software for the experimental group and through traditional methods for the control group. Data were collected using "Balance Success Test in Chemical Reactions" and "Semi-Structured Interview Questions". Data was analyzed using dependent and independent sample t-test and qualitative analysis methods. Based on analyses, there was a significant difference between post-test scores of "Balance Success Test in Chemical Reactions" of both experimental and control groups of the three participating schools. Consequently, students were more successful in academic achievement according to a traditional approach on the "Velocity and Balance in Reactions" concept using material supported by animation and educational computer games developed on the 5E learning model. Semi-structured interview results indicated that students had mostly positive views about the material.
