Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of a course prepared with computer assisted programmed instruction method to students? academic achievements and to investigate reflections to student views. In the study, Instructional Technologies and Material Development course which helps teacher candidates gain the knowledge of new technologies and how to use them, and therefore has a very important place among teacher training courses has been selected. In order to teach Instructional Technologies and Material Development course with computer assisted programmed instruction method, one of the programmed instruction models called ?Linear Program Model with Washahead and Washback? has been selected and material has been developed in accordance with this model. One of the mixed designs ?Explanatory Design? in which qualitative and quantitative research methods are involved together have been used in the study. For quantitative research, ?Pretest-Posttest Control Group Experimental Design? has been employed. 40 question achievement test which was developed by utilizing the literature by the author has been used. For qualitative research, student views on the course performed with computer assisted programmed instruction method have been received with the help of a form composed of open ended questions. The sampling of the study was composed of 60 third year students enrolled in Gazi University, Faculty of School of Industrial Arts Education, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Education who took Instructional Technologies and Material Development course during 2011?2012 academic year fall semester. Experimental and control groups have been randomly chosen. During the 7 weeks period, computer assisted programmed instruction method in Instructional Technologies and Material Development course has been implemented in 30 student experimental group and traditional instruction method has been used in 30 student control group. In the analysis of the data which is collected by the data collection tools, t-test techniques were used in qualitative case for dependent and independent groups according to sub-problems. SPSS 17.0 statistical package program was used for this. In quantitative case, data collected by student views has been analyzed with content analysis method. Results based on the findings showed that computer assisted programmed instruction method increases students? academic achievements more than traditional instruction method in Instructional Technologies and Material Development course teaching. It has been determined that students involved in the study found the method advantageous because of being able progress according to each individual?s speed, self-check, easy access, time saving and being able to progress step by step, and disadvantageous because of reduction in socialization, the need of the teacher, the probability of having technical difficulties, lack of motivation and the difficulty of working with computer. All of the experiment group students accepted the effectiveness of the method and declared that this method can be used for other courses as well.Key Words: Computer Assisted Instruction, Programmed Instruction, Traditional Instruction, Instructional Technologies and Material Development, Instructional Materials Development
