Abstract (EN)

Infertility affects 15% of couples planning a pregnancy, according to data from the World Health Organization. Infertility is a condition that occurs when couples do not concieve pregnancy with unprotected sexual intercourse for at least a year. The spermiogram test is the most simple and accurate approach to determine whether infertility is caused by female or male partner. Standart sperm analysis is traditionally performed in reproductive clinics and laboratories. Since quantitative assesments depend on technician evaluations, highly accurate results cannot be obtained, in manually inspected specimens. In recent years, computer-aided systems with image processing units have been employed to analyze sperm quality. In this thesis, a computer-aided sperm analysis system(CASA) is developed to quantitatively assess sperm motility, mobility and morphology. Analysis of spermatozoids has been performed by processing digital micrographs obtained from the Andrology-Urology Clinic of Ankara City Hospital. In addition to the parameters measured in standard CASA systems or defined in the literature, novel parameters have been developed to characterize infertility
