Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to ınvestıgatıon of the effects of the computer based family education program applied to the families wıth gifted children who attend the science and art center on the perceptions of family members to family relations and perfectionism level of children.In this study, parents of gifted children who attend the Science and Art Center were administered a four-week face to face group meeting and an eight-week Computer Based Education assisted with Group Education through the website. The education program includes the following topics: Communication, Speaking with and Listening to Children, Establishing Empathy, Disciplines Methods Used by Parents, Developmental Charateristics of Gifted Children, Educational Practices for Gifted Children, Difficulties Experienced by Parents With Gifted Children, Family and Siblings Relationships, Perfectionist Charateristics of Gifted Children, Gifted Children and Stress, and Guiding Gifted Children on Professional Decisions.The study was conducted in Yasemin Karakaya Science and Art Center (Umit Science and Art Center) and Ankara Science and Art Center. In the study, while 20 children who attend Science and Art Center and their parents constitute of experimental group, 20 children who attend Science and Art Center and their parents constitute of control group.Within the scope of this study, in evaluating the effectivenes of the Computer Based Parent Education Program assisted with Group Education in order to examine parents? behaviors towards their gifted children and parents? behaviors, ?Parents? Behavior Assesment Form? developed by the researcher was used. In the study, with the aim of evaluating the perceptions of parents and children on family relations, ?Family Structure/System Assesment Tool (FSAT)? developed by Gulerce (1996) was used. In order to asses perfectionist behaviors of gifted children ?Multi-dimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS)? developed by Mısırlı Tasdemir ve Ozbay (2003) was used. Moreover, in order to measure the lastingness of the program ?Parents? Behavior Assesment Form?, ?Family Structure/System Assesment Tool (FSAT)? ve ?Multi-dimensional Perfectionism Scale(MPS)?used as pre-test and post-test were administered to parents and children in the experimental group again as a follow-up study.At the end of the Computer Based Education assisted with Group Education provided to parents, when the mean scores of the ?Parent Behavior Assessment Form? of parents in the experimental group were analyzed, it was seen that the post test and follow up test scores were significantly higher than pre-test scores ( p<0,005). While there was no difference between pre-test scores of the experimental and control group, post test scores were different. It was assumed that this increase was due to the effectiveness of the Computer Based Parent Education Program.When the mean scores of the pre test and post test of parents in control and experimental group were analyzed, it was found that the mean scores of experimental group in post tests were higher. According the this, it was seen that computer based education provided to parents in experimental group had a positve effect on AYDA total mean scores. It was also determined that the post-test scores of parents and children in the experimental group on the Communication, Union, Management, Competence, and Emotional Context subscales of Family Structure/System Evaluation Tool (AYDA) were significantly higher than the pre-test scores ( p<0,005). When the post-test scores of the experimental group and control group were compared, it was determined that the values of the experimental group on the Communication, Union, Management, Competence, and Emotional Context subscales of Family Structure/System Evaluation Tool (AYDA) were significantly higher (p<0,05).When the mean scores of the pre test and post test of children in control and experimental group were analyzed, it was found that the mean scores of experimental group in post tests were higher. According the this, it was seen that computer based education provided to parents in experimental group had a positve effect on AYDA total mean scores of children. When the difference between pre-test and post-test scores of children on all subscales of AYDA were analyzed, it was determined that the post-test scores was significantly increased (p<0,05).When the results of Difference Test related to the mean of post-test scores of Multi-dimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS) were analyzed, it was seen that the post-test scores of the experimental group was significantly decreased in positive direction on Extreme Attention to Faults, Behavior Doupt, Family Expectations, Family Criticism, and Personal Standards Subscales (Except Order Subscale) (p<0,05). It was seen that the scores of children in the control group on Multi-dimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS) increased in negative direction (p<0.05).According to the results of the study, it was found that the Computer Based Education assisted with Group Education had effects on positive direction on the perceptions of family members to family relations and perfectionism level of children.Key Words: Gifted Child, Giftedness, Parent Education, Science and Art Center, Computer Based Education, Group Supported Education
