Özet (EN)

The purpose of this thesis is to determine the effects of the history of science based stories on students? course engagement and conceptions within the unit of ?Force and Motion?. The study was conducted within the direction of action research approach. Five history of science based stories developed and administrated by the researcher in her own 7th grade science and technology class. The administration process took seven weeks with the class consisted of 15 students who meet twice a week with two consecutive forty-minute sessions. Throughout this process, multiple data collection methods and techniques, including researcher diaries, semi-structured interviews, formative tests, an achievement test were employed. The history of science based stories were found effective about students? conceptions and understanding of `force and motion? related concepts. Furthermore the results are encouraging regarding engaging and motivating students to the class. Based on the findings, it is suggested that nature of science aspect should be addressed in stories future research.Key Words: History of Science, Story, Force and Motion, Action Research
