Abstract (EN)

The problem of how to determine and distinguish science from pseudo-science or non-science is known as the demarcation problem in the philosophy of science. This problem, which constitutes the main subject of the work, has been tried to be solved by many criteria proposed by philosophers of science, since the beginning of 20th century. Science has been evaluated through logic and logical propositions by these criteria in order to determine the boundary between science and pseudo-science. Philosophers such as Vienna Circle's member, Popper, Kuhn and Lakatos ultimately evaluated the problem from a logical point of view in their criteria in order to solve the demarcation problem. Dealing with the debate through logic and logical propositions means that the problem is evaluated formally instead of its content. It also means that proposed criterion to determine the scientific status of science items such as expression, theory, research program, has to provide individually necessary and jointly sufficient proper demarcation criterion. This study emphasizes that the quest for necessary and sufficienct conditions cannot fully capture the variable and diverse structure of science and it will not be possible to determine science and its boundaries with this method. It is absolutely necessary to consider demarcation problem from a sociological point of view. We need to look at the social structure of science and its values system. As a result, demarcation problem cannot be accomplished by solid and common features proposed by necessary and sufficient conditions and science should be assessed within the framework of the "family resemblance approach". The multidimensional canon based on the family resemblance approach will contribute to the solution of this problem since this approach involves social factors and covers the diversity of science.
