Özet (EN)

ABSTRACTASSOCIATION BETWEEN MORTALITY AND OTHERPROGNOSTIC PREDICTORS WITH THYROID HORMONELEVEL AMONG ICU PATIENTS WITHOUT KNOWN THYROIDDISEASEMortality is very high among intensive care unit (ICU) patients. In this study, wetried to determine the predictors that estimate the mortality of ICU patients and theassociation between them.417 patients were included. 235 of them (% 56) were male, while 182 (% 44)were female. Predictors of mortality were determined as age, Apache II score, WBCcount, hemoglobin level, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Erythrocyte Sedimentation Level(ESR), procalcitonin, lactate, prothrombine time (PTZ), activated partialthromboplastine time (aPTT), fT3, fT4, TSH.In our study, mean age was not statistically significant for sexes and also forsurvivors and non-survivors. Among prognostic predictors, high levels of Apache IIscore, WBC count, supression of fT3, fT4, TSH and albumin levels were found to beassociated with mortality. Supression of thyroid functions correlated well with increasesin Apache II score, WBC count, ESR, CRP, procalcitonin levels and decrease withalbumin level. In conclusion, Apache II score, WBC count, ESR, CRP, procalcitonin, prothrombine time, activated partial thromboplastine time, fT3, fT4, TSH and albuminare found to be valuable parameters in predicting the mortality among ICU patients.KEY WORDS: ICU, thyroid hormone supression, Apache II, WBC count, ESR, CRP,procalcitonin, prothrombine time, activated partial thromboplastine time, lactate, mortality.
