The relationship between usage of information technologies and strategic decision making: A research about four and five star hotels being in service in Istanbul

Abstract (EN)

Information technologies are among one of the most important means of competition. It is known that the countries having information technologies are stronger and more developed than other countries. Information technologies affect efficiencies and productivities of strategic decisions made by business in rapidly changing competitive environment significantly. Due to this reason, information technologies play a highly fundamental role in making and implementing strategic decisions. From this point of view, investigating the relationship between information technologies and strategic decision making is aimed in this research. Four and five star hotels being in service in Istanbul have formed the population of the study. Whole number exemplification is used in the research and all the four and five star hotels in Istanbul are incorporated into sampling. Data of the research in which Quantative Research Method has been used, was obtained by using questionnaire technique. Within this context, all of the population is discussed; however, 110 hotels took part in the research. The data of the research is composed of the responses of a senior manager from each hotel. The data obtained from the research is analyzed by using SPSS for Windows 18.0 Program.The results of analysis are presented by using descriptive analysis technique. In consequence of the analysis, approach road to information technologies, benefit road from information technologies, utilization road of information technologies, negligible of information technologies are found out as dimensions of information technologies. The dimensions associated with the strategic decision making are managerial factors, dimension of information technologies, dimension of competitors and dimension of decision support systems. By the end of correlation analysis being the suitable for the purpose of the research, it has been found out that there is a relationship between usage of information technologies and strategic decision making. Additionally, managers? thoughts with reference to strategic decisions are different with regards to demographic attributes.
