Abstract (EN)
Aromatic plants have gained significant importance in both traditional and modern applications due to the essential oils they contain. Essential oils are natural mixtures with characteristic scents and biological effects, obtained from various parts of plants such as flowers, leaves, roots, or stems. Composed mainly of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and their oxygenated derivatives, these compounds not only determine the unique aromatic profile of plants but also stand out for their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and therapeutic properties. This study focuses on Mentha longifolia, Salvia verticillata, Nepeta baytopii, and Helichrysum plicatum, which are valuable aromatic species found in the flora of Türkiye. The essential oil composition of Mentha longifolia is characterized by prominent compounds such as piperitenone oxide and 1,8-cineole. In Salvia verticillata, sesquiterpenes such as caryophyllene derivatives and germacrene D are dominant. The endemic species Nepeta baytopii contains nepetalactone derivatives and citronellol, while Helichrysum plicatum is rich in terpenic compounds like α-pinene, nerolidol, and β-caryophyllene. By identifying the essential oil profiles of these species, this study contributes to natural product research and offers insight into the medicinal and industrial potential of these plants.
