Synthesis and characterization of biomass-supported nanoparticles

Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, metal nanoparticle has been synthesized by using plant biomass as the support substance and has been characterized and has been suggested to be used in different fields of application.As the plant biomass support substance, Balcalı 2000 kind of original Turkish wheat which is protein-rich has been used. Upon the bioreduction of Au(III) ions coming from KAuCl4 salt by bonding to wheat biomass to Au(0) and the formation of gold nanoparticles, the effect of biomass particle size, biomass amount, flushing duration, gold solution concentration and solution pH has been examined and optimum parameters has been determined.As a result of the bioreduction of Au(III) ions to Au(0), the gold particles in different shape and in different size has been obtained. The gold particles obtained in medium scaled sizes (20 nm- 60 nm) have fcc tetrahedral, hexagonal, icosahedral multipletwinned, decahedral, rod and irregular structure. Under these circumstances, studies that gold particles in rod shaped are obtained has not been encountered in the literature, which has brought authenticity in our study.xvSynthesized nanoparticles have been characterized with the methods of UV-Vis spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscobe (SEM), transmission electron microscobe (TEM), energy distribution spectroscopy (EDS), BET surface area analysis and dynamic light scattering spectroscopy (DLS).It has been suggested that as an application, synthesized biomass supported gold nanoparticles in different shape and sizes can be used in environmental studies, in the elimination of mercury from wastewater and drinking water, in medicine and biology studies, in the fields of application of antibody detection, tumor determination and the determination of biomarkers in perception aimed cell.
