Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between metabolic syndrome and chronotype in patients with bipolar disorder. The sample of the study consisted of 159 patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder who were treated in Ankara province Dış Kapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital and Etlik City Hospital. "Personal Data Form", "Beck Depression Scale", "Young Mania Rating Scale", "Morning and Evening Questionnaire" and "NCEP ATP III Metabolic Syndrome Diagnostic Criteria" were used as data collection tools. Data were collected by face-to-face interview technique. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis tests, Chi-square/Fisher Exact test and Spearman's rho correlation analysis were used for statistical analysis of the data. Of the patients; 25.8% were in the morning chronotype, 61.0% in the intermediate chronotype and 13.2% in the evening chronotype group. It was determined that 52.2% of the patients had metabolic syndrome. Univariate logistic regression analysis revealed that DM (p=.012), HT (p=.006), smoking (p=.025) and night eating (p=.014) significantly predicted metabolic syndrome. As a result of multivariate multinominal logistic regression analysis, it was determined that night eating status (p=.024) significantly predicted intermediate chronotype, while night eating status (p=.024) and age (p=.002) significantly predicted evening chronotype. In line with these results, it is recommended that psychiatric nurses should screen for metabolic syndrome in patients with bipolar disorder, provide relevant trainings, and provide trainings and practices to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome in patients.
