Abstract (EN)
Salvia tomentosa Miller, a species of salvia; It is a shrub-like plant with a height of 50-60 cm, which grows naturally in the Mediterranean Region, Dalmatia and Italy, and is cultivated in Germany, Southern France and Hungary. It is stated that it is used as a pain reliever and cough suppressant in the treatment of cold and asthma among the people, as well as it can be effective in the removal of inflamed wounds. It has been observed that there are not enough studies on this species, which is widely used in traditional use among the public. For this reason, with the presented thesis, it was aimed to qualitatively and quantitatively determine the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity and components of aqueous extracts of Salvia tomentosa Miller species. For this purpose, separate aqueous extracts of Salvia tomentosa Miller were prepared by using the flower, leaf and branch parts of the above-ground parts and the whole above-ground parts of the plant (flower-leaf-branch mixture). The radical scavenging activity of the obtained extracts was determined by the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined by determining the total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) levels. The total amount of phenolic substances in the extracts was measured by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. Qualitative and quantitative analyzes of the components in the extracts were performed in the LC-MS/MS system using a previously validated method. It was determined that the extract, which was created by using the above-ground (flower-branch-leaf) parts of Salvia tomentosa Miller together, showed stronger antioxidant and antimicrobial activity compared to the aqueous extracts obtained separately from only the flowers, branches and leaves of the plant. However, it was determined that the components of the separately prepared flower, branch and leaf extracts and the extract components obtained from the above-ground parts were highly similar. However, it was observed that there were significant differences in the rate of presence of the same type of components. It is thought that the obtained data will contribute to the literature in order to explain the phytotherapeutic activity of Salvia tomentosa Miller.
