Incidence of occupational accident and realeted factors in a steel structure production factory

This survey aims to show the characteristics of the accidents and the related factors at a stell structure production factory in Ankara, between January 2007 and June 2008.All the workers were asked to answer 45 questions at the given questionnare. SPSS for Windows was used for the statistical analysis.All the workers were male.the mean age of them was 35,37±8 , %42.4 had primary school diplomas, %69.2 of them were satisfied with their job. This survey showed that %71.1 of the workers were trained for the jobs. The ratio of using the personel protective materials, such as helmets, proper clothes and shoes was found to be high.Overall occupational accident rate between January 2007 and June 2008 was %22.4. Accident rate between ages 20-30 was %34.4. The production department was the most accident occured divisson of factory with a rate of % 44.4 . Leading accidents were compression, being crushed, eye contamination with welding powder and being crashed with blocks.Major causes of the accidents were found to be carelessness and shortage of personel protective materials.In conclusion; it would be useful to educate and train the workers about the job, to supply proper self protective materials, to evaluate the details of the former aaccidents and to take preventive measures would decrease the of occupational accident rates.After occurance of accidens to evaluate the details and to take preventive measures would decrease the rate of the accidents.Key words: workers health , occupational accidents , steel structure ındustry, occupational safety
