Abstract (EN)

Food security and environmental sustainability have been among the key issues in last decade. Organic agriculture is considered as remedity to guarantee both of these two issues and put into operation. Even though Turkey has a great potential, organic production in Turkey has been below this potential due to the lack of learning and training resources on organic agriculture. In order to overcome this issue, developing and publishing e-learning/training resources, and easing to access them can be effective approaches. There is a strong need to the mechanisms for storing, indexing and searching to ease Access to the related resources. The objectives of this study were to develop an information portal on organic farming and to index relevant web resources that can be accessed online via internet. In order to achive these objectives a metadata application profile based on XML markup language has been developed and adpated to the portal. This specific application profile has been created with the elements from Dublin Core (DC), FAO AgMES and IEEE LOM metedata standards and profiles. The use of this application profile with agricultural thesaurus will contribute to expanding semantic web applications.
