Abstract (EN)

The external side view mirror that is assumed as important safety component and is subject to legal regulations helps driver extend driver's field of view. However, various forces (road loads, aerodynamic forces, etc.) acting on the mirror causes undesired vibrations. These vibrations cause a decrease in the image quality of the mirror and life safety risk for driver, passengers and pedestrians. In this study, parameters that affect the vibration performance of the external side view mirror of an automobile were defined. To this end, modal analysis of the mirror system was carried out after a finite element model of the mirror had been built. Influence of these parameters on the mirror was comparatively studied and assessed. By the parameter that determined, dynamic performance of the external rear view mirror which has a polymer bracket was –to meet the expectations of vehicle manufacturer- increased. At the last stage, finite element simulations was validate by hammer test.
