Comparative analysis of a middle school mathematics teacher's documentational genesis process in pre-service and in-service

From past to present, methods of teaching mathematics have changed and developed. During this process, our teachers also used many different resources. The aim of this thesis study has been determined Comparative Analysis of a Primary Mathematics Teacher's Documentational Genesis Process in Undergraduate Education and as Teacher. Therefore, the participant of the research was selected by purposive sampling method. The case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods that allows holistic analyzes, was used in the research by collecting data with methods such as observation and document analysis. In accordance with the case study conducted, the data were collected with the reflective analysis method. These collected data were analyzed by content analysis method and divided into categories. The codes created by the analysis of the collected data were grouped under six (6) main categories. As a result of the findings, it was observed that the undergraduate education and the ideas of the teachers in this period contributed greatly to the documentation processes of the primary school mathematics teachers, but there were new sources in the professional period. This situation showed us that there are deficiencies in the undergraduate education of teachers. In addition, it has been seen that one of the biggest resources in the teaching planning of teachers is themselves, namely their experience. These experiences include their own student experiences as well as professional experiences. It has been observed that another factor that mathematics teachers use as a resource for lesson preparation is students. It has been seen that the success and socioeconomic status of the students also affect the documentation processes of the teachers. In addition, it has been observed that the facilities of the institution, the attitudes of the administrators and the education system in the country play a role as great guides in the documentation of the teachers.
