Evaluation of A palliative care center sample with inpatient features, user satisfaction, quality of care service and cost aspects

Abstract (EN)
In this research, palliative care services and the profile of our country are examined in the sample of a palliative care center. Sectional typical participants of research consisted of 100 patients who palliative care support in Ankara Ulus State Hospital palliative care center between the dates 01.10.2015 - 30.06.2016 hospitalized more than five days, who were admitted to the study, who were not again hospitalized and caregiver 100 family members. The data were obtained from the patient files and face to face survey. In the analysis were used mean±standart deviation, numbers, percentage independent t-tests, mann whitney-u tests and chi-square tests were. P value <0.05 was taken as significant. The mean age of the patients was 62.8 years and 65.0% of them were male. 48.0% of the patients were 65 years or older. The average length of stay was 56.5 days. The average length of stay was longer than in the literature. 42.0% of the patients were fully dependent on the bed. Patients were hospitalized due to the most frequently nutritional failure, following general condition disorder and family edution reasons. 29.0% of patients were hospitalized for cancer. 49.0% of patients have a neurological disease as the underlying disease and the most frequently disease is cerebrovasculer diseases. Postoperative patients were also accepted for palliative care support. The mean age of caregiver family members were 48.0 years and %67.0 of them were female. The family palliative care satisfaction was measured as 4.4±0.6 points. The families evaluated their satisfaction with the palliative care service at the level of "very satisfied" and "satisfied". 53.0% of the families prefer the house as a post-discharge care place and a palliative care center of 42.0%. It was found that families' satisfaction with pain management was effective in choosing post-discharge care place and families wanted to choose a palliative care center. 81.0% of the families had no awareness of palliative care and 19.0% of them had awareneess. In research, direct cost of illness was examined. The average unit cost was be 22.128 TL. The unit cost of a day in hospital was found as 391 TL.
