Healthy lifestyle behaviors and affecting factors of individuals applying to a university hospital diet clinic

Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between psychological well-being (PWBS) and healthy lifestyle behaviors (HLBS) of patients referred to a university hospital diet clinic and other factors affecting healthy lifestyle behaviors. The universe of the cross-sectional process consists of the drugs directed to the Diet Polyclinic of Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. Data were collected by the researchers between 01.09.2023-31.12.2023 with a total of 82 questions, including 10 questions on sociodemographic characteristics, 12 questions on healthy living characteristics, 8 questions on psychological well-being performance, and 52 questions on the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale. A total of 1502 patients applied to the diet polyclinic, and a participation rate of, 69.44% was observed. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square, Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal Wallis-H, Post-Hoc, Spearman correlation tests were used in our research. The ages of the participants in our study ranged from 18 to 85, with a mean age of 44.5±15.5. The participants' BMI ranged from 13.2 to 52.8, with a mean BMI of 30.0±6.2. The total mean score that the participants got from SYBD was 127.85±19.30; the mean score of the SYBD health responsibility sub-dimension was 21.55±4.64; the mean score of the SYBD physical activity sub-dimension was 13.88±4.58; the mean score of the SYBD nutrition sub-dimension was 22.47±4.29; the mean score of the SYBD spiritual development sub-dimension was 25.60±4.55; the mean score of the SYBD interpersonal relationships sub-dimension was 25.62±4.40; and the mean score of the SYBD stress management sub-dimension was 18.71±3.71. Among the participants, the total SYBD of the illiterate participants was found to be lower compared to primary school, high school, associate degree and postgraduate degree (p<0.001). The total SYBD of the employed participants was found to be higher compared to the unemployed (p=0.034). The total SYBD of those living in the village was found to be lower compared to the others (p<0.001). The total SYBD of those with hobbies was found to be higher compared to those without (p<0.001). The total SYBD of those who do not do regular physical activity was found to be lower compared to the others (p<0.001). The total SYBD of those who have regular breakfast was found to be higher compared to those who do not (p<0.001). As a result, those with higher education levels, those who are employed, those who live in the city center and districts, those who have hobbies, those who do regular physical activity and have breakfast have been found to have higher levels of healthy lifestyle behaviors.
