Özet (EN)
ABSTRACT Introduction and Aim: The incidence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is increasing worldwide as well as in Turkey. Micro and macrovascular complications are becoming a global epidemic with increased morbidity, mortality and health costs. The aim of this study is to evaluate vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels retrospectively in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who applied to Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital and to determine the relationship between vitamin D and B12 levels with biochemical parameters and glycemic control. Materials and Methods: This retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 549 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who applied to Dicle University Medical Faculty outpatient clinics between 01 01/01 / 2016-01 / 01/2018 retrospectively. Data of 549 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients were compared in terms of Vitamin B12, vitamin D, glucose, Ca, phosphorus, urea, creatinine, cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglyceride, HbA1C levels. Results: 225 (40%) of the patients were male and 324 (60%) were female. Vitamin B12 levels were found to be lower in patients with low vitamin D levels (p = 0.002). Patients with low HbA1C had higher vitamin D levels. Patients with high vitamin D levels were found to have lower levels of HbA1c and blood plasma glucose levels with better glycemic control. Conclusion: The evaluation of vitamin D-vitamin B12 levels in diabetic patients and the replacement of them when necessary are important for controlling diabetes and preventing complications. KEYWORDS: Diabetes mellitus, vitamin B12, vitamin D.
