Abstract (EN)

In this descriptive study, some possible exposure sources of bisphenol derivatives of mothers who gave birth in Hacettepe University Hospital's delivery room, between November-December 2021 were determined and bisphenol A, F and S, thyroid stimulating hormone and free T4 hormone levels were measured in the cord blood. The data were collected by face-to-face interview technique with a data collection form and blood sample analyses. Those with any thyroid disease diagnosis and those who got pregnant by in vitro fertilization were excluded from the study. The survey result of 121 mothers and cord blood analyses of 104 newborns were evaluated. BPA, BPF, TSH and fT4 levels are detected above detection limits in 96.2%, 93.3%, and 89.4% of the analyzed cord blood samples, respectively. The average levels for BPA, BPF, TSH, and fT4 were measured as 10.69±2.39 ng/ml, 3.80±0.58 ng/ml; 2.36±0.23 µIU/ml, and 14.18±0.53 pg/ml, respectively. It was observed that BPS levels in cord blood remains below the detection limit of the measurement method used. 41.3% of the mothers participating in the study and 47.1% of their spouses had high school or higher education. There is a statistically significant association between the educational status of mothers and spouses and their plastic preferences regarding chopping surface, meal preparation and service. There are no statistically significant associations between the cord blood levels of bisphenol A, F and material preference in chopping surface, in meal preparation and service, food packaging preferences when shopping, food container material preference, microwave oven use, washing plastic materials in the dishwasher and polycarbonate carboy use. In the correlation analysis, statistically significant moderate correlation between BPA and BPF levels were found. In the correlation analysis performed between other parameters, there was no statistically significant relationship between the parameters. There was no statistically significant relationship between BPA and BPF levels, infant birth features and maternal age. Key words: Bisphenol, Cord Blood, Exposure, Newborn
