Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to see the effects of creative drama processes for middle school 8th grade students in solving the problems that require "Mathematical Modelling." In this context, plans containing mathematical modeling questions developed using creative drama method were applied to the students. In the end of the application it is aimed to create a sample application by evaluating the students diaries, the data that is acquired from the interviews, applied pre-test, post-test and persistency tests and by making use of body of literature. In this study mixed method is used. The study group of the research is consisted of eight grade students studying in a government school in Eskişehir city. The data is acquired from interview questions before pretest, pretest questions, workshop student notes, structured interview before posttest, retention test, student diaries, workshop camera recordings, workshop audio recordings. Although the students claim in the beginning that the mathematical modelling questions are very hard, missing, unsolvable, it is observed that after posttest and retention test, they are able to produce a solution and comment. Moreover, it is observed that they pass the understanding step of the modelling and they do modeling with more variables. Also, a change in the guessing skills of the students is observed. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the method was successful in revealing variables, determination to solve problems, developing social skills and transferring mathematics to daily life. It was concluded that the "Mantle of the Expert " approach applied in the process was more effective in revealing variables. Keywords: Mathematical modelling, Creative drama, Mantle of the expert.
