Dicoursive construction of the individual: appearances of individualism in the Turkish novel after 1980

This study deals with modernity through individualism. In the first and second section, the process of development of modernity, novel and individual in these periods, including Renaissance, Enlightenment, 19th century classical modernity and 20th century contemporary modernity are discussed. The classical image of modernity, which was captured in the 19th century, based on principles such as reason and progress, will be re-evaluated over what they left after the 20th century and the process will evolve into contemporary modernity.In the novel, in the direction of modernism an anti-individualist fiction depicting incompatible individuals and not integrated with the world in which they live will become widespread. In the following chapter, the position and typing of the individual in the novel are examined through the periods of Turkish modernization.Our study begins with the Ottoman modernization and refers to the novel in the Republican era. Then, after 1950 and after 1980 modernization is evaluated and the ideal type of individualism is mentioned.The study focuses on a historical break. This break in literary evaluations is based on 1970s with the emergence of individualist novel in the novel which is a socialist novel in the center for a long time. On the other hand, in the social studies, the evolving transformation of the individual with the increasing importance and the way he perceives modernity is shown after 1980s. In the last chapter, a total of five novels published in the 1970s, 1990s and 2010s were examined. The inner world of the individual and the rise of the novel describes the abstract modernist and postmodern novelist is expressed with the development in Turkey and selected works from the author is representing it. The post-1980 situation shows that modernity, the world, and the way we perceive the world are different. Individuals in the novels, in this period, the meaning-making process offers in anti-individualist fiction. Anti-individual identification is an important phenomenon in expressing individualism. After 1980, the anti-individual in the novel is a form of heroism, buried in the inner world, questioning rather than saving the world; in the inner world, trying to move away from the ordinary and ordinary life he saw in the society and civilization.
