Abstract (EN)

The emergence of the concept of academic entrepreneurship includes the commercialization of the results of the research they have done, based on the knowledge and experience they have gained throughout their careers, in order to benefit socially and economically. The main purpose of this study is to examine the concept of academic entrepreneurship in a developing country in detail and to determine the individual (psychological factors, human capital, social capital) and environmental (business environment, barriers) factors that affect the entrepreneurial intentions of academics. The research data were obtained by applying a face-to-face survey to 1464 academic staff working in faculties of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University in 2022 with convenience sampling method. Due to time and difficulty in accessing academics, 348 responses were received. Descriptive statistical techniques, frequency analysis, reliability, pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were used in the interpretation of the data obtained to test the predictive model created within the scope of the research. The findings show that psychological factors (creativity, perceived usefulness, self-confidence), human capital (entrepreneurship education, experience) and social capital have a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial intention of academics. However, the results show that the business environment and market barriers, which are among the environmental factors discussed within the scope of the study, have no effect on the entrepreneurial intention of the academics, and that the knowledge barriers have a negative effect on the entrepreneurial intention. The current findings obtained within the scope of the study were discussed in the light of the relevant literature, and suggestions were developed for future research. Key words: Entrepreneurial Intention, Academic Entrepreneurial Intention, Individual and Environmental Factors
