The relationship between individual values and conflict management strategies: A study in service sector

There are many factors that affect behavior. At the beginning of these factors are values. Understanding the cause of employee behavior in working life and being able to direct the employee to the desired behavior for the benefit of the organization can be a solution to many organizational problems. Conflict is also one of the organizational problems. Strategies used in conflict management also express a behavior model. The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of individual values on conflict management strategies. The research was carried out on teachers working in private and public schools, nurses working in private hospitals and public hospitals, and bankers working in private and public banks in Lüleburgaz district of Kırklareli. The final sample consists of 411 people. Questionnaire was used as data collection method. In the research, Portrait Values Questionnaire by Schwartz and Conflict Management Strategies Questionnaire belonging to Rahim were used. In the research, difference analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation model analysis were performed. According to the structural equation model analysis, it was concluded that the levels of Achievement and Benevolence, which were sub-dimensions of the Portrait Values Scale, affected all the dimensions of the Conflict Management Strategy Scale. Besides, it was found that the level of Hedonism, which was one of the sub-dimensions of the Portrait Values Scale, impacted on only the Domination and Obliging levels of the Conflict Management Strategies Scale.
