Investigation of mental training components in individual and team athletes

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the mental training components of individual and team athletes. The scanning model was used in the study and the sample of the research was composed of 280 athletes, 183 men and 97 women, working in different provinces. The data of the study were collected with the Personal Information Form and the Mental Training Inventory in Sports. Mental Training Inventory in Sports was developed by Behnke and his friends, (2017) to measure mental skills and mental techniques the sports environment. Turkish adaptation was made by Yarayan and İlhan (2018). In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistical methods, unrelated samples t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation analysis were applied using the Statistics Program for Social Scientists SPSS 22. As a result of the research, it was determined that national athletes had higher scores than non-national athletes in Mental Performance Skills and Interpersonal Skills, which are components of Mental Training. Also team athletes had higher scores than individual athletes in Interpersonal Skills. In addition, as the years of doing sports increase, it has been determined that there is an increase in the mental stimulation and interpersonal skills, which are the components of Mental Training.
