Evaluation of illness care and illness adaptation of individuals over 65 withchronic diseases in family health center

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between the two concepts by questioning the level of compliance with their diseases and satisfaction with the care provided to individuals over the age of 65 with chronic diseases. Methods: This study was approved by the Malatya Clinical Research Ethics Committee with the decision number 2022/2901 on 11.01.2022. The research, which is observational-cross-sectional type, was carried out between 30/03/2022-30/05/2022. In the study, people over the age of 65 with chronic diseases registered in the Family Health Centers of Malatya Battalgazi and Yeşilyurt central districts and patients who volunteered to participate in the study were included and included in the study with 500 patients meeting the criteria. While evaluating the findings obtained in the study, SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 22.0 program was used for statistical analysis. In the study, descriptive data are shown as n and % values in categorical data, and mean±standard deviation (Mean±SD) values in continuous data. Conformity of continuous variables to normal distribution was evaluated by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Mann Whitney U test was used to compare binary data, and Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare more than two data. Post Hoc test was used to find out where the significance originates from. Significance was evaluated at the p<0.05 level. Results: A total of 500 patients with a mean age of 73.6±7.7 (min=30-max=95) were included in the study. Of the patients, 258 (51.6%) were female and 242 (48.4%) were male. Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (PACIC) scale mean score was 3.4±0.8 (min=1.2-max=5) and Adaptation to Chronic İllness Scale mean score was 79.9±11.9 (min=45-max) =122) was determined. There was a negative significant correlation between the adaptation score and age. A positive and significant correlation was determined between PACIC total score and adaptation total score (r=0.225; p<0.001) Conclusion: While the satisfaction levels of patients with the chronic disease care they receive are evaluated between "sometimes" and "often", adaptation with chronic diseases was found at "moderate" level. There is a positive relationship between patient's satisfaction with their care assessment and disease adaptation. No study was found that investigated the relationship between disease compliance and assessment of chronic disease care. For this reason, the number of studies should be increased.
