Özet (EN)

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are an increasing public health problem all around the world. Food allergy and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) can be counted among the NCDs. Bisphenol A (BPA), as an endocrine disrupting chemical, is used for the production of the policarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. With vast area of usage of BPA, humans are exposed to it chronically. When BPA's damaging effects came in sight, other bisphenol analogues developed and came into use. One of the most common bisphenol analogues used as an alternative to BPA in BPA-free labeled product is Bisphenol S (BPS). In this study, the inflammatory effects of Bisphenol A and S on gastrointestinal system of Sprague-Dawley rats are investigated. After 21 days of exposure of BPA and BPS via oral gavage, Erben histomorphological scoring has been calculated for the assessment of development of inflammation in large intestine. In order to compare the bisphenol analogues' metabolism, their excretions in urine have been assessed with liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). And the levels of total cholesterol in blood and creatinine in urine have been analysed with biochemical tests. The results showed that, BPA has more pro-inlammatory impact than BPS on large intestine. Both BPA and BPS increased the level of total cholesterol. Because of less biodegraded than BPA, BPS wasn't detected in the urine. It is a concerning result about bioaccumulation of BPS in the body. Keywords: Bisphenol A, Bisphenol S, intestinal inflammation, mass spectrometry
