Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to examine how biographical illustrated children's book affect the acquisition of the "introducing oneself and one's family characteristics" gains in the preschool education program. This research, which employed qualitative action research design, obtained data from a public school in the Gölyaka district of Düzce in the 2021-2022 academic year. Within the scope of the study, interactive read-aloud workshops and events were done with the participation of 6 pre-school children. The study, which included 5 qualified children's picture book biographies, lasted 6 weeks. The research was implemented by the researcher. To collect the data, a preliminary assessment and a final assessment were conducted and a journal was kept by the researcher during the research process. Following the interactive read-aloud workshops, the children were interviewed again before taking action and this data were discussed in light of the existing literature. In this study, which was designed as an action research, interviews were conducted with fifty-seven pre-school teachers, forty-two parents and forty children in order to shed light. Voice recordings of the students were made while marking the questionnaire data in line with the interview responses from teachers and parents. The data were then transferred into a computer program and analysed with the content analysis method. After the analysis, an action plan was generated, and interactive read-aloud workshops were held. As a result of the latter interviews, it was analysed whether the children's picture book biographies contributed to the afore-mentioned children acquisition. The findings of this research revealed that reading children's picture book biographies with interactive read-aloud method contributed positively to the acquisition of children's ability to introduce themselves and their families as indicated in the pre-school educational program of Ministry of National Education (2013). The results indicated that children's picture book biographies helped children to better express their names, surnames, ages and physical features in addition to the names, surnames, and professions of their parents, and the names and home addresses of close relatives. However, no change was established in the children's expression related to their gender, height, emotional conditions, physical features of their parents, and the phone number of one of the parents.
