Abstract (EN)
Heraclius, became the emperor with a coup-d'etat against emperor Phocas in 610. During his reign (610-641), there was no sign of the heyday of the reign of Iustinianos. The oppression period of Phocas weakened the empire. While Avars and Slavs wore out the west part of the empire, the eastern part of it began to be invaded by the Persian Empire. This constant chaotic atmosphere destroyed the power and faith of the empire and the empire face to be demolished. Heraclius considered as a hope and his reign was met with joy under this chaotic condition. He, at first, carried out reforms on coins (Hexagram) and mints for the weakened economic system. As a result of these reforms, he was able to take under the control the Avar and Slav tribes by paying them tributes and establish new troops against the Sassanid Empire. After his economic reforms, he realised military reforms and launched successful campaigns against Sassanid Empire between the years 622-628 after laying the foundations of the change from the magister militum system to thema. He pushed the Sassanids to throw back towards the inner places of their empire. This process started the fall of the Sassanid Empire. After a short time, a new thread appeared. This new thread was the Arabs. The struggles between Arabs and Byzantine Empire beginning with Mute War in 629, were resulted in a series of war and the loss of the significant economic and military bases of the empire. During these struggles he tried to hinder the loss of the territories by providing the unity among the Eastern Churches and made a religious reform by declaring Ecthesis.
