Dimension effect on seismic behaviour of block type quay walls

In this study, behavior of block type quay walls under seismic activity is analysed. Shaking table tests were made with different frequencies and two different type block models (B/h=2-1.5) which were located on a rigid surface in a shaking table. In the shaking table tests for backfill, gravel material (d50=0.8cm) was used. 8 and 2 tests were carried out for first and second block models respectively. In this study, the frequency range was between 3-7 Hz and base acceleration range was between 0.058-0.413 g. Shaking table tests were made both regular (sinuzoidal harmonic) and irregular conditions. During all tests, the time history of acceleration, soil pressure, displacement and pore pressure measured with devices which were located on various places on the system. Also performance of the block models were evaluated with base acceleration and dimension effect. Settlements in the backfill were measured with bed profiler before and after the tests. Data obtained from the test were analysed and dimensionless parameters which define behavior of block models were presented and obtained information about seismic performance of these structure in the thesis.
