Effect of Renal Tubular Acidosis on Graft Function in Renal Recipients INTRODUCTION AND AIM: The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the prevalence of renal tubular acidosis, its effect on graft function, and possible risk factors associated with renal tubular acidosis in kidney recipients. METHOD: Admitted to Sakarya Training and Research Hospital Nephrology Clinic Transplant Polyclinic between September 30, 2020 - December 22, 2021; Data of 174 patients were analyzed. Demographic characteristics of the patients, history of acute rejection and blood parameters planned to be evaluated were examined. RESULTS: RTA was detected in 9.2% (n=16) of 174 patients included in the study. A statistically significant difference was found between the development of RTA according to the gender of the patients (p=0.038), the development of RTA according to the proteinuria status in their urine (p=0.009) and the development of RTA according to eGFR levels. (p=0.002). There was no statistically significant difference between the development of RTA and the history of acute renal rejection (p=0.096). CONCLUSION: In our study, RTA developed after kidney transplantation was associated with female gender, low eGFR rate and proteinuria, consistent with the literature. It has been shown that more studies are needed for the prevalence of RTA and its relationship with the history of acute renal rejection.
