Evaluation of TRB2 region Van province textile industry sector within the scope of attraction centers program as a policy tool in regional development

TRB2 Region covers the provinces of Van, Muş, Bitlis and Hakkari. This region has a young population and high unemployment rates compared to the country as a whole. Van is the only metropolitan city of TRB2 Region: Significant investments have been made in the textile sector within the scope of the Centers of Attraction Support Program (CMDP), which is the application of the growth poles theory under the conditions of the Republic of Turkey. These are: In 2012, with the "Tekstilkent" project and the "Van Textile and Ready-to-Wear OIZ Infrastructure Project" carried out by the Eastern Anatolia Development Agency since 2018, 22 textile companies were established with state-supported regional incentives and started production. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the current current situation of the planned textile clusters in the city of Van within the scope of Attraction Centers since 2012 in terms of product and workforce (quality and quantity), R&D and innovation status, production organization, supply and marketing, sustainable environmental approaches, location decisions and company strategy and competition, and to present suggestions by analyzing the data obtained from semi-structured interviews with the necessary methods and programs. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats have been identified for Van textile sector through literature review and semi-structured interview form studies. As a result, the current current situation of the textile sector in Van within the scope of the Attraction Centers Support Program (CMDP) is revealed within the necessary parameters. This study, which is the first of its kind in the TRB2 Region, will also be a reference for future studies.
