Immigration policy of regional power Turkey in the context of relations with European Union: Institutions and practices

The phenomenon of migration that has existed throughout the history of mankind has reached an international dimension today. When the causes of migration and their results are evaluated, it is clear that they can affect countries economically, socially, and politically. Therefore, it does not appear to be possible for countries to independently establish immigration policies. Countries to and from which people migrate and those in the position of transit countries cooperate to shape their migration policies. In this study, the impact of Turkey's becoming an active power in the region in recent years on migration movements, the impact of relations with the European Union on migration policies, and the work and practices of relevant institutions in Turkey on migration policies have been examined. The migration policy of Turkey, which became an immigrant-receiving country rather than a transit country, was rearranged within the framework of the EU acquis. With the General Directorate of Migration Administration established within this context, it was aimed to specialize in migration.
