Structure and functionality of regional development agencies case study: İzmir and Çukurova

Regional development agencies are one of the new popularinstruments of development and applied in the most of countries of world withsuccess. Obtaining the potential of region and enhancing the appropriatedevelopment strategy and bottom-up development strategies took over withregional development agencies.Mostly the structure of agencies are affected from political,administrational and some other facts. And also in application there arevarious agency models in different structures. The main goal of this study isto examine regional development agencies in theoretical perspective. Thenstructure of agencies in world and structure and functionality of regionaldevelopment agencies are also examined.Regional development agency model in Turkey is discussed in publicopinion with judgement process and various critics instead of establishmentgoals of agencies. Also the İzmir and Çukurova are the first and pilot regionaldevelopment of Turkey and they had to stop their activity due to thisjudgement process. İzmir and Çukurova Regional Development Agencies hadto stop their activities due to judgement process. But they will be a guide fornew 24 regional development agencies of Turkey. Because they completedtheir structuring and made their project proposals. That?s why we chooseİzmir and Çukuroca as an application and made a survey among our study.The main problems of regional development agencies are various butmajır ones are juristic personality, status, problems in regulations andparticipation. The problems are held both in theoric and survey chapters.
