Investigation of the antenatal-postnatal follow-up forms in the health centers in Bolu downtown in the aspect of antenatal care services

Abstract (EN)

The study was designed as a descriptive research to determine; whether the antenatal-postnatal follow-up forms used for the pregnant women registered in the health centers at Bolu downtown were registered or not, what antenatal care services are taken by the pregnant according to the antenatal-postnatal follow-up forms, whether the services are appropriate for expected antenatal care follow-up frequency or not, whether the content of the services are sufficient for the pregnancy condition of pregnant women or not, and the conditions and the existing problems related to pregnancy was registered to antenatal-postnatal follow-up forms. Antenatal postnatal follow-up forms kept by 38 midwives working seven health centers in the Bolu downtown have been examined in February-May 2006 and 624 pregnant women were identified. All the information in the follow-up forms have been transfered into the questionnaire developed for the study. Forty percent of the pregnant women were in the range of 25-29 year age groups. Almost half of the women (51.3%) were graduated from primary school, 79.5% of the pregnant women were housewife. Fifty percent of the women married ages between 20- 24 year. Although 91.5% of the pregnant women have no consanguine marriage, 7.0% of them have the risk of Rh incompatibility. It was found that almost half (54.2%) of the whole pregnant women didn?t use any family planning methods before their last pregnancy. According to the results obtained from the study, 47.7% of the pregnant women were determined before 12th week and 47.7 % of the pregnant women were made suggestions in all follow-up. It has been determined that 16.4% of pregnantt women were folowed up less then expected. They have been referred to physician due to especially risk of miscarriage. It has been also determined that midwives educate women on usually nutrition in the all trimesters. Although midwives have filled out completely (100%) the address column at the antenatal postnatal follow-up forms, there are missing data related to other information in the forms. In conclusion; after examining theantenatal care services used by the pregnant women, recommendation related to the organisation of antenatal care services at the health centers have been made.
