Abstract (EN)

Objective: Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of mortality and morbidity in our country and in the world. To prevent heart and vascular diseases, it is necessary to demonstrate the risk factors and related conditions. In this study, risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in adult population of Bolu Doğancı village have been examined. It is aimed to reveal the frequency of tobacco and alcohol use, nutrition, physical activity, obesity and hypertension and related factors. Materials and Methods: The research is performed in Doğancı village, which has 957 adult population. 796 people have been reached and the study have been completed by 749 people. According to Q By Q STEPS Instrument V 3.0, a questionnaire was developed for data collection and it was implemented through face to face interviews by the researcher and intern doctors. The height, body weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure and heart rate measurements of participants have been done. The necessary permissions for research have been received by Abant Izzet Baysal University, Human Research Ethics Committee in Social Sciences and Governorship of Bolu, Local Public Health Authority. Results: 51.7% of study group is female and 48.3% is male. 45.0% of the group had primary school graduation and mean age is 47.56 ± 16.52. 79.3% of the group are still married. 40.9% of them work in revenue generating jobs. 71.1% of participants state that they have health insurance through Social Security, while 65.6% of them state their income status as middle. 26.7% of the study group use tobacco products and 4.9% of them use alcohol. While 63.7% of people in study group are eating white bread, 57.5 % of them are eating village bread. 63.6% of the group use tap water, on the other hand, 26.6% of adults use Kökez water. 83.8% of group uses sunflower oil and of 44.9% uses butter. 28.7% of study group performs mid-level physical activity and 32.6% of them perform heavy physical activity. In study group, 31.4% of adult are obese, 56.7% of them have large waist circumference and waist-hip ratio of 55.7% is large. 22.9% of men and 39.3% of women are obese. 37.7% of the study group has hypertension. 34.5% of men and 40.6% of women suffer from hypertension. 57.0% of those who are obese, 43.5% of those with large waist circumference, 41.2% of those who have large waist-hip ratio are hypertension patients. Conclusion: From cardiovascular disease risk factors, tobacco and alcohol use in men and obesity and hypertension in women are much more frequent. It should be carry out many programs to raise awareness of risk factors and intervention programs should be prepared. Keywords: cardiovascular disease, alcohol, smoking, obesity, hypertension, STEPS
