Abstract (EN)

The Ottoman Empire is a well-established state spread over wide geographies. As a result of this, the products, lands and animals obtained were subjected to a certain count. Record-keeping started with Tahrir Registers and continued with Avarız registers and Temettuat Registers, respectively. These censuses were generally made to determine the lands and taxes, but they were insufficient to give detailed information about the structure of the region. For this reason, censuses were started to be made at certain intervals in the 15th and 16th centuries in the Ottoman Empire. Only the male population was taken into account in the censuses. The aim here is to determine the people who will go to the military and pay taxes. Since the female population is not included in the censuses, it is not possible to reach an exact number for the regions. With the insufficient data obtained, the first census in the modern sense in the Ottoman Empire was carried out in 1831 by Sultan II. It was built during the reign of Mahmud. With the modern censuses, more comprehensive information about the periods began to be obtained. The Dörtdivan District Population Register numbered 702, dated 1256/ Gregorian 1841, which we have examined, gives information about the Muslim population in the region.
