Abstract (EN)

The Bornova melange comprises an olistostrome-melange situated NE-SW direction between the Izmir Ankara Suture Zone and the Menderes Massif. The Bornova melange is mainly composed of strongly deformed Late Cretaceous to Late Paleocene sandstone and shale matrix with huge blocks of Mesozoic platform limestone and oceanic crustal associations as tectonic slices. These large-scale limestone blocks in the matrix of the Bornova melange are mostly defined as limestone, basalt, serpentinite and radiolarian cherts. In this study, granitic tectonic slice situated in the Bornova melange named as Kavacık tectonic slice is examined for the first time, in terms of its geological features and its U-Pb zircon crystallization ages. The intrusive boundary relation of the Kavacık granitoid is not clear in the field and displays tectonic boundary with the other tectonics slices. Kavacık tectonic slice displays a typical granitic texture and its composition indicates ranging between granitic to dioritic in composition. The geochemical features of the granite indicate I-type and subalkaline nature of the granitic body. The geochemical signatures of the Kavacık granite points out a volcanic arc setting as similarly seen in the Karaburun granite. U-Pb zircon LA ages were also obtained from the Kavacık granite ranging between 224.5 ± 2.0 My and 230.0 ± 2.8 My. Early Triassic zircon ages are also previously observed in the Karaburun Peninsula (Karaburun Granite) and the Menderes Massif (Ödemiş-Kiraz Submassif).
