Abstract (EN)

Unprotected pipelines are vulnerable to corrosion if buried in soil, exposed to the atmosphere or submerged in water. Without proper maintenance, every pipeline system will eventually fail. Corrosion can weaken the structural integrity of a pipeline and can become a dangerous vehicle during the transport of dangerous goods. However, if implemented correctly and maintained continuously, there is a technology that will extend the pipeline structural lifetime indefinitely. Cathodic protection (CP) is a technology that uses direct electrical current to prevent normal external corrosion of a metal pipeline. CP is used when a part or all of a pipeline is buried underground or immersed in water. In this work, commonly used coating, painting and cathodic protection methods for controlling corrosion in pipelines were examined individually and applied. The sustainability of the protection of the pipeline against corrosive environments was observed with the measurement and tests made as a result of the application. The effective lifetime extension of all pipelines has been studied with effective cathodic protection control. The increased risk of pipeline failure is far beyond the costs associated with the installation, monitoring and maintenance of corrosion control systems. Therefore, by using cathodic protection method applied to pipelines, it is aimed to prevent possible corrosion, to reduce the costs and risks of failures in this scope, to protect the environment and to protect the public security.
