Reasons of divorce and difficulties met following divorce

According to Turkish civil code, reasons of divorce for marital breakdown decision is made by the judge as a result of desire of one or both of spouses in our law include adultery, attempt on life, very bad or humiliating act, perpetration and dishonest living, abandonment, mental illness and greatly distressed case for union marriage (Oy, 2008).The aim of the study is to show the reasons of fact of divorce met frequently in recent years in Turkey and to determine difficulties of divorced individuals following divorce. Rate of divorce is increasing more and more today and divorced individuals, their children and circle are generally affected by this process adversely. According to data of 2009 of Turkish statistical institute, Izmir is the top ranked province for rate of divorce in our country. For this reason, determination of reasons of divorce seen frequently today is of importance to protect unity of family and continue preventive studies.Responds of individuals for the survey were analyzed by SPSS program by chi-square test method by statistics searching frequency and percentage distributions, relation and interpreted.Based on findings obtained as a result of statistical analysis, ?adultery?,? oral and/or physical violence?, ?bad habits? and ?material matters? are shown as the reasons of divorce and it is higher for women. In consequence of study, it was seen that the persons indicating ?oral and/or physical violence? as the divorce reason with high rates are the ones marrying as arranged and not desiring, the rate of indicating ?adultery? as a reason of divorcing rise as duration of marriage extends and number of children in the family increases. Moreover, it was emerged that the rate for applying mental health support is higher for the individuals divorcing due to violence. Moreover, it was concluded that the individual with no children experiences mental/psychological distress more than the ones with children following divorce, but as the number of children increases, economic distress increases, too. In general, the result that problems met following divorce cause more difficulties in the lives of individuals with lower financial situation.
